The punishment has come down after the terrible fight in Detroit. Artest will be suspended for the rest of the season without pay. Others will serve concurent suspensions. The NBA is showing the rest of the league that fighting will not be tolerated. This is a good start. Artest’s one dumb choice cost him millions of dollars. So I guess he now has time to concentrate on his rap album.
Firefox is a program called a “browser”
TheUberGeeks.net have a great article about Firefox. It talks about the features of Firefox in a non-tech speak, better than I can explain. Take a gander, and then go download.
New Version of IrfanView is out
One of my favorite image viewers, Irfanview, has released a new version a few weeks ago. It is a great free program that can do many basic manipulations to your images, like crop and resize. I use it many times when I do not want to open up Paint Shop Pro. One of my favorite features is to create a screensaver or slideshow of my images. Thanks to Neil for the heads up of the new version.
Gmail to offer free POP access
In a few weeks Gmail users will be able to access their account through POP for free with no advertisements.
Over the next several weeks, we are introducing POP access to all of our users. To make sure the feature is fully stable, we’re giving users access to POP in phases. Once POP access is available to you, a ‘New Features!’ link appears at the top of your account, along with a ‘Forwarding and POP’ tab on your ‘Settings’ page.

It looks like Gmail is also planning antivirus protection soon. That is one feature desperately needed.
I can’t wait. 🙂
Mozilla Firefox 1.0 Released

Go grab your copy if you can. It looks like the mozilla.org servers are getting swamped. Try the Firefox 1.0 EN-US FTP release directory or an AOL mirror if you can’t get to the main page. You will find one way to grab it.
It also looks like we have a nice new start page for end users from Google.
