Wired News has a great story on why to Boycott Sony. I hope other companies are watching, so they do not make the same mistakes.
Finnaly, Sony has stopped producing CDs that install rootkits onto your computer. I guess all it took are virus writers using the rootkit to hide their payload. News.com has a nice FAQ, if you want to learn more about this problem.
This is one of the reasons I don’t like buying CDs anymore. Record companies really restricting the music we buy. I am not a music pirate. I support artists that I love to hear. I also believe in fair use. I want to easily move the music I buy from the CD to my iPod so I can take it anywhere. Yet with all of the DRM in CDs now it is harder to rip music off the CD onto your computer. That is why I love buying songs from iTunes. Less hassle for the songs I buy.
This is so cool. At Weather Bonk you can get live weather, forecasts, radar, and webcams on a google map. It is great to quickly find the temperature in your part of town. I am easily going to put this into my bookmarks easy reference.
Google has been busy lately. They just launched Google Reader, which is a web based news aggregator. What is a news aggregator? It is a program that lets you read articles from a website in one central location. The news aggregator will pull the new articles for you to read once the article is posted. This is a great way to easily read pages or articles on the web without having to individually visit each site.
I have been using Bloglines as my news aggregator for awhile now and I have to say Google Reader is pretty slick. I can easily scan the over 60 feeds I subscribe to, reading the items I want. Also, I really like the keyboard shortcuts, which helps to move through all the articles quickly. I will be trying this for awhile and maybe soon I will be droping my Bloglines account.
Exploring the earth with Google Earth just got more interesting now that Google and National Geographic have joined forces. By enabling the National Geographic layers in Google Earth you can now get articles and photographs of areas of Africa covered within National Geographic. This is a great way to learn about unique areas of Africa and should keep me busy for awhile.
