Why the Ads?

You may notice that I have put Google ads on the sidebar. You may think I that I am trying to make money off my site, but I am not. Many other bloggers have these ads and use the money as they see fit. I have been thinking of an idea to use any income generated by the ads to donate to different nonprofits or open source projects. I am just curious of how much money could be generated.
